2021.10.16 05:43 Suspicious_Ad9810 It was a good day.
The title says it all, at least, all that matters.
As an educated, adult, intelligent (sometimes) human, it was a sh!t day. 5 minutes between start of contract and start of contact never makes for a good morning. Emails galore about idiocy that applies to 3 people but is sent district wide. Admin that doesn't show to cover your class for something THEY require and THEY schedule. Contacting apathetic families who have kids out 9 days with no contact (mandatory 10 day drop). Contacting families with concerns about grades on assignments you haven't even graded yet because your last 3 prep times were canceled due to lack of subs, and your afterschool prep by which I mean, personal, because you know your contract doesn't cover time past meetings, is gone because the busses are too full to transport your personal kid from their school to yours within the district, so you get to join the endless, dreaded "pick-up line" that has quadrupled in size due to driver shortages. Throw in no custodial staff, so make sure to sanitize and take out your own trash. Sweep the floor if you can, too! Oh, and that grading is still there, as is the survey (per student) that admin didn't show to cover you for. Oh, and did I mention this is Oregon on October 15, so I have literally been wiping students tears as they ask me if school will be canceled after Monday, because if it is, they really need to take home their computer today (elementary, so we don't check out tech unless quarantined) because they don't want to get behind and not learn. No worries though, district admin finally sent out the bus route cut list and our boundaries aren't effected . . .yet. Oh, and I am still currently ignoring that pile of grading.
But it was a good day, as a teacher. It was a good day for the part of every teacher who deals with the above sh!t for that moment that you make a difference.
I had a student "get it." It clicked, and they understood a math concept that they never "got" before. I had a student write a full sentence who spent the whole quarter answering in single words. I had an extremely anxious and introverted student who often misses school due to these things ask me for help with something she didn't understand (please understand how major this was for her!!!!)
Later, I overheard 2 students talking about how history was never fun before. That it was boring and they hated it, but I made it interesting. They were excited to learn the subject for the first time and even groaned when it was time for the subject to be over.
Then I hit the hat trick. I got an email from a former student that simply said, "I miss you teaching me. You made school interesting." I am choosing to believe they weren't betting on my daily haircolor (I like novelty colors).
Oh, I also got an overworked, spread too thin colleague to finally say "no" to another non-contractual admin request.
I love this thread, and gods know we need a place to vent, but sometimes, we need a good day too. I know I did, and I'm not surprised it was (mostly) my students who gave it to me.

2021.10.16 05:43 Apprehensive-Cat8198 Psychology Research Opportunities
Hey guys, I'm a second year student double majoring in psychology and biology. I really want to get involved in research but I honestly don't know where to start. It's also really hard to stand out because of how everything is online right now. Is it hard to get into research especially when I don't have a lot of extracurriculars and my marks are okay. Does anyone have any tips? I was thinking of talking to a psychology academic advisor but idk if they would at all? I'm really stressed because with a program like mine, hands on experience and research is really important and I feel like I'm so lost.

2021.10.16 05:43 xTaken_soul Aim and left hand dominance
Switched to KBM 2 months ago, my mechanics are already 3-4x better than they ever were on controller, but I still lose 50-60% of my fights due to aim. Here’s the thing, I’m left hand dominant but use my mouse with my right hand. Yeah I aim train and all that, and I’ve seen improvement, but it is incredibly slow. Is it due to my hand dominance? Do most people still have shit aim after 2 months? Can I ever aim as well as people who are naturally right hand dominant?

2021.10.16 05:43 Demigodz44 Just some random unimportant dude's thoughts on 2042
So this is probably going to be rambly and unorganized, but these are just my opinions and feel free to disagree. I am someone who has played this game for a long time. I am not a full OG that has played from the beginning, but I have been around since the first Bad Company, and has spent way too much of my life playing most of the installments since (missed BF1 and the beginning of V since I was in the military and just couldnt make time to play them as much as I wanted). I am in the 2042 doesnt feel like BF crowd, and guess I just want to express my opinions in a non "toxic" way. Will also say if you enjoyed the BF2042 beta good for you, and glad you had a lot of fun in it. I had some enjoyable games too, but just came out of the beta extremely worried and somewhat underwhelmed. Coming out of the beta just thinking this is Battlefield in name only. Team massive team vs team fighting over objectives to me was replaced with just kind of running around till you found enemies. There was no flow to the battles. No real frontline, just wandering around from objective to objective wondering if you were gonna get shot in the back. I will fully admit this would happen sometimes in other Battlefield games too, and it is completely possible it was just the map and not indicative of what the full game will be, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
The fact that team/squad play basically non-existent is the other aspect that just took away from the BF feel. When a squad is working together in BF it just takes the game to another level. Having teammates revive, cover, resupply, and work as a cohesive group is what set BF apart, and in the beta it was just not there. Yes it is uncommon to have a perfectly run squad when playing with randoms, but there just never even seemed to be any effort to even try. I couldnt even get mad when my squad didnt work together like in other games. With the bad reviving, spotting, and being unable to tell friend from enemy cant blame them for saying screw it and basically going lone wolf. Even when I did squad up with friends I have been playing with a long time the teamplay just felt lacking. It was too easy to aimlessly just kinda wander away from each other, and we never really saw the need to have some sort of plan, since it was hard to tell which objective need help defending, or which one should be the one we should focus on taking next. We would just kinda wander from flag to flag.
Last thing I am gonna write is why I feel it is important for the game to feel like Battlefield. When a game loses its identity then honestly what is left. Games that chase what they think is popular in order to sell more copies do nothing but rot away, and alienate their fanbase. Games should evolve from sequel to sequel, but it doesnt feel like 2042 is trying to evolve, instead just force things from other popular games into Battlefield. When I first saw specialists I thought cool they are trying to advance the class system. Instead it feels more like they are trying to shoehorn in the Siege/Apex operator (and whatever they are called in Apex) system into Battlefield. I am firmly in the I prefer classes over specialist side. Still willing to give them a chance and hope that more specialist will fix the issues, but I am highly skeptical. Not going to go farther into the specialist debate just thought I should affirm my position, but I digress. I am just terrified that Battlefield is going to become what Ghost Recon turned into. Just a shell of its former self that long time fans dont even recognize anymore.
With all that being said I am refusing to give up on this game. I am not canceling my preorder and gonna try with all my might to enjoy this game. Some people might say that I am part of the problem, but I love this series too damn much to not attempt to a legit chance when it fully releases. TBH I hope when the game launches it will be great and I will being eating crow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

2021.10.16 05:43 SHOCK_VALUE_USERNAME Vice's "The Big Squeeze" is garbage. It portrays the short-sellers as the good guys and Reddit as the baddies.
Vice just released an hour-long documentary on the January sneeze. This pile of crap makes Hulu's GameStop documentary look good.
If you want to watch it, you can pretty much just skip the first 30 minutes. There's almost nothing about the stock and they just try to introduce some of the characters' backstories in order to turn it into a human interest piece. Characters such as random managers of GameStop stores, Gabe Plotkin (a brilliant investor and great human being), Andrew "We know more about short interest than you" Left and DFV.
Spoiler alert: The story ends with some of the smarter professional investors talking about how they made millions as they sold in the $200s, and then one little retail guy talking about how he lost his life savings after he paperhanded. They never mentioned that if he had just held onto his shares for a few more weeks, he could have broken even (or more) as the stock went back into the 300s in March... and again in June... Also one of the manager's stores has since been closed down, ruining her life.
Overall it's made to look like the tragic protagonists such as Plotkin and Left were right to short a bad company, and mean Reddit anti-semites bullied them and stole billions from them.
Absolutely nothing is mentioned about anything that has transpired since January, so don't waste your time.
