2021.10.16 03:57 Advent_Kain Hey, I need some freelance RPG writers, anyone interested?
Promethium Books needs freelance writers/designers to use our tools to craft spells, magic items, and monsters for our upcoming low-fantasy tabletop game.
We're paying between ¢3 and ¢5 per word depending on the content type and need dozens of monsters, magic items, and magic spells created using the Promethium Rules and toolset.
Interested? Check out our SRD here and send me either a Spell, Technique, or Simple Monster - or convert one from your favorite tabletop game, and send me your portfolio - whatever that may be, whether it is professional works or your best home-brews in DMbinder.
Reply in dms or comments, either or. Pretty sure this does not break any rules, and I look forward to hearing from you!

2021.10.16 03:57 EnronInvestor42 I never want to see a DB5 in a James Bond movie ever again
It’s a metaphor for what’s gone wrong with this series of films. I’ve been a fan of James Bond movies since I was a kid; having seen every one at least once. I want to see the franchise do well and evolve in the 21st century. But I’ve been very disappointed by the Craig era films, which I believe make the seemingly contradictory errors of relying too much on nostalgia; while at the same time making Bond into a far too gritty, pitiable character that doesn’t really suit the franchise.
Craig nails the classic formula on paper - handsome looks, exotic locales, gadgets, and beautiful women. But the villains have been forgettable one-note characters. Plots are more notable for their gimmicks than actual suspense. And callbacks to themes from the ’60s (SPECTRE, for example) are frankly pathetic and demonstrate either a lack of imagination, or courage, or both; from the executive producers.
In present-day media, I would point to the HITMAN series of video games as the nearest representation of what a better Bond could look like. The protagonist, like classic Bond, takes on villains with cunning rather than brute force. He seamlessly blends in to exotic locations around the world in pursuit of a criminal organization; mirrored on themes of a power elite that are relevant in the present day. We know very little about his backstory, and it doesn’t matter because all we care about is watching a highly trained agent focused on their mission.
To move forward, Bond needs to ditch the nostalgic tropes and MCU-style engineered plots. There is a lot of room to update Bond to the present day while keeping to the original formula that worked so well. For future films, I hope the producers resist the urge to overthink everything and just make a good action movie that’s entertaining to watch.

2021.10.16 03:57 cousin_basil German Officer Corps Dueling During WWII
On the [World War Two Youtube channel ](https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxboS4t3u6ZjV9sfdRGOO-fqrG7Y-Ygngn) day to day update a comment stated: " Apparently the German Army Officer Corps has a dueling epidemic. The Army regulations which regulate the "Wahrung der Ehre" [preservation of honor] are repealed "für die Dauer des Krieges" [for the duration of the war]. Order published 7 November 1942 See Domarus, Reden Band IV s. 1927, & Domarus, Speechs, Vol 4, p. 2690 "
Was dueling really a problem for the Wermacht during the time of war? This was new to me. Are there any famous incidents?

2021.10.16 03:57 Bungalow_Dyl Hobby Shop
Hello! I will be visiting Montreal and Tremblant soon. I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a hobby store for me to check out, as I have only ever shopped online. If I only have time to visit one I’d like to see the most impressive! My main interests are military builds, aircraft and tanks. I’d like to come home with something significant, either a big kit or maybe an airbrush. Thanks!

2021.10.16 03:57 johnnys_sack How to get leadership to agree to increased headcount? [MN]
This is longer than I expected. At the end, I have a couple of questions that you might be able to answer without reading the backstory.
I've been with my company for several months as a manager. I work for a medical device company. The site I'm at has <100 employees but it's a global company with thousands of employees worldwide. Since I've started, everyone (not exaggerating) has said how overworked they are, how they can never get their work done in 40 hours, etc. Personally, I get my work done in 40 hours but I have super strict boundaries and refuse to take my work home with me.
The annual engagement survey results came out recently. My site, and the other US sites as well, have dramatic decreases in employee morale, negative view towards the company, and major increases in folks stating that they are looking for work externally. Compared to the last 3 years, the results are eye-opening. This is supported by massive turnover at the US sites. There are around 20 people altogether in my department, and there are very few with more than 1-year tenure.
In a brainstorming session with our site leadership, it became obvious that people are, in fact, overworked. The HR manager stated that the most common reasons people give for leaving during exit interviews is due to lack of support staff (engineers, buyers, maintenance technicians, etc) and lack of production workers (meaning more overtime).
The company is fine posting production jobs. They'll give the OK to post production job after production job, but they evidently refuse to post an engineer, buyer, technician, etc. Presumably, they give the OK to post production jobs because they have a tangible value assigned to them. They know that hiring someone at $17/hr is a bargain, because after they are trained, they will output many times that in product being delivered.
It is my belief that it is much harder to know the value of an engineer, of a quality technician, of a calibration technician, etc. I can see this current situation and look at machines being down for longer than they should be, or items awaiting quality review sitting for days on end, supplies being ordered too late because there is only 1 buyer for the entire site, etc. I don't quite know how to put dollar or other values to these situations in a way that upper leadership will understand the need for additional help. It sounds like it should be as simple as "well if a machine that produces parts valued at $x/hr is down for 5 hours then the lost value is 5hr * $x/hr." It's not, though, because for the most part, the production team isn't staffed well enough to utilize the equipment 100%. For example, all of this affects production metrics, so they get tired of being 'red' every day and leave.
For the record, our business operating profit last quarter was almost 20%. However, upper leadership doesn't see the toll its having on the employees and they won't be able to react in time if a few key individuals leave. It really is a classic case of a small company where a few key individuals contribute way more than they ought to. But those people are burning out, I hear it and can see it coming. I can already see the writing on the wall for me, if things don't change soon, I'll be one who looks elsewhere. However, I don't get any face time with upper leadership, I get face time with directors only. And obviously whatever message I give to them is filtered, if it's passed along at all.
What cases have you seen managers or directors make in order to get new white-collar (engineer, technician, etc) headcounts when upper leadership generally says no?
I want to gather data and show that an additional (engineer, technician, buyer, quality assurance rep, etc) will provide enough value to 'pay for themselves'. What kind of data should I gather?
Anything else that can help?
